The goal of this symposium is to document what is known about salmon populations in the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim (AYK) region, and to identify key ecological processes that may cause changes in salmon populations and the fisheries they support. Overview:

Welcome to our Salmon Symposium Manuscript Submission Portal. This web page provides an overview of the process and timeline for timely publication of our peer reviewed AYK SSI Salmon Symposium Proceedings as well as instructions for submitting your manuscripts via our website.

Editors and Editorial Board:

Our Salmon Symposium Proceedings will be published by Alaska SeaGrant as a peer-reviewed book co-edited by Dr. Charles Krueger and Dr. Christian Zimmerman and guided by an AYK SSI Editorial Board consisting of the following STC Members:

Manuscript Preparation

The text parts of your manuscript must be prepared in MS Word and MUST conform to manuscript format of the Transactions of the American Fisheries Society.(Note: These guidelines provide guidance for manuscript formatting. Ignore the section on "submittal procedures," as you will be submitting to the AYK SSI via our on-line system.)

Submission

Online submission is the only method of submission and will be available at http://www.aykssi.org/extranet/Manuscript/login.cfm between February 21 and March 15, 2007.

Timeline and Editorial Process


Submission of final draft manuscripts are due via online submission form.

March 15, 2007

Initial screening by Editorial Board

March 15 - April 15, 2007

External peer review conducted. Three scientific peers are secured to review the manuscript in terms of the appropriateness of research design, data analysis, interpretation of data, and application and discussion of results, logic flow, and clarity of writing.

April - May 2007

Editorial Board reviews peer reviews and decides whether paper is acceptable without further revision, potentially acceptable with minor or major revision, or should be rejected.

June 2007

Papers that must respond to peer reviews are returned to authors for revision. Authors revise manuscript based on the peer reviewers' comments by August 1, 2007. Authors write responses to each peer review comment. The authors shall describe the revision made to the manuscript in response to the comment. The authors shall provide a rationale for refuting the peer reviewer comment.

August 1, 2007

Co-editors review the draft manuscript and author's response to reviewers' comments and either accept, reject, or return the manuscript for further revision.

October 1, 2007

For accepted papers, manuscripts are sent to a copy editor to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, tables, and figures by November 30, 2007. Copy editor may correspond directly with authors to clarify changes made to the manuscript.

November 30, 2007

Copy edited manuscripts are forwarded to publisher for galley proof layout. Galley proofs are returned to authors for final review.

December 2007

Corrected galley proofs are returned to publisher and Symposium Proceedings goes to press

January 2008
